Trying To Save The Relationship

Before You Decide It's All Over... (Cont...)

The most well known organisation in this country for marriage counselling is RELATE, which is a registered charity with offices around the country, offering marriage guidance counselling.

Our local branch is in Worcester, situated at 19 Castle Street. The telephone number for enquiries for the Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Evesham, Kidderminster, Malvern, Redditch and Worcester areas is (01905) 28051.

WORCESTERSHIRE FAMILY MEDIATION is another independant organisation that has been set up to assist separating or divorced parents to reach their own agreements about future arrangements for their children. This is a form of Mediation. The most important point to note about mediation, is that it is not reconciliation. Mediation is for any couple who have children, and who have decided that they will separate; or who are already separated but disagree about arrangements for their children. No attempt is made by Worcestershire Family Mediation to encourage the parents to reconsider their decision to separate but, if the parents both decide, during the mediation meetings, that they wish to think again about their separation, they will be helped to seek advice from another source, such as RELATE (see above).

WORCESTERSHIRE FAMILY MEDIATION can be contacted at Castle Street, Worcester WR1 3QQ and by telephone on (01905) 610925.

Typically, WORCESTERSHIRE FAMILY MEDIATION may help parents decide about

  • With whom the children will live most of the time.
  • How often the children will see or stay with the other parent.
  • How much contact the children will have with other relatives.
  • Which school the children will attend.

Work with children whose parents are in a divorce or separation has shown that those children can cope better with the changes when these arrangements have been properly agreed between the parents.

What if the relationship cannot be saved?

If the relationship is to end then there is usually no choice but for the parties to separate. The parties can simply move apart or the separation can be made more formal by an agreement or a divorce.
