Trying To Save The Relationship

Before you decide it's over...

"Marriage is an Institution"

Marriage is still a very popular way of "sealing" a relationship between a man and a woman although, increasingly, living together "outside the bonds of marriage" is considered acceptable and, indeed, preferable.

What happens if it goes wrong?

Although English law is beginning to recognise the need to consider the rights of unmarried couples, the law in England for unmarried couples today can generally be regarded as quite different from the law for married couples.

Can the relationship be saved?

Whether a couple are married or not, steps towards a separation should not be taken before very careful thought has been given to the possibility of saving the relationship. After all, marriage is generally regarded as a permanent relationship, as also are many non-married relationships. The potential consequences of a divorce or separation are so far-reaching that such a step should generally be regarded as a matter of last resort.

Many relationships fail through communication problems between the parties, and many problems can be sorted out through improved communications. This is something that the parties themselves can deal with but, occasionally, outside help is needed.
