Before you decide it's over...
"Marriage is an Institution"
Marriage is still a very popular way of "sealing" a relationship between a man and a woman although, increasingly, living together "outside the bonds of marriage" is considered acceptable and, indeed, preferable.
What happens if it goes wrong?
English law limits its recognition of the needs and rights of unmarried couples, the law in England and Wales for unmarried couples is quite different from the law for married couples.
Can the relationship be saved?
Whether a couple are married or not, steps towards a separation should not be taken before very careful thought has been given to the possibility of saving the relationship. After all, marriage is generally regarded as a permanent relationship, as also are many non-married relationships. The potential consequences of a divorce or separation are so far-reaching, not only for the family itself but the extended family and connections that a good look at the reason for the difficulties may be worthwhile.
Many relationships fail through communication problems between the parties, and many problems can be sorted out through improved communications. Sometimes this is something that the parties themselves can deal with but, often outside help is needed and importantly is available and commonly used.
